Arthur Rackham, Peter Pan and Freud

Basicaly just read this XD ; (an essay by Doré Ripley)
THE BROKEN MIRROR:
A Freudian Slip into a Hellenistic Victorian Gynoculture

to give you an example one of Rackham's illustrations is analysed thus:

"The island’s amniotic moat is roped off with what appears to be a medieval chastity belt, and even the ducks respect this superego barricade."

and I just love this part:
"This theme or neurosis of weak-willed effete men present in Imperialist Victorians carries into the present day in Nick Park’s Wallace and Gromit claymation series, where Wallace, an eccentric English inventor, refuses to marry and needs constant rescue by his faithful dog, Gromit. In all these works, the lower classes, reflected by a manservant (or a dog), need to save England from its pathetic patriarchal upper classes, to inject a new vitality in the gene pool. "

enjoy!

A Means Of Escape

One of my illustrations for one of my current projects...
because staring out of windows is my favourite form of procrastionation.

Cous cous

I tried to get you the photo of Gerald Scarfe sketching in an abbatoir that goes with this quote, maybe I will yet.

"Reality is more unbearable to draw than imagination"

I love Gerald Scarfe's life story.

Had to drag myself out of bed this morning to go to a tutorial, with hair that made me look like I was trying to be adopted by Tim Burton, only to be mocked by Kieren about my childhood phobia of fans.

I just finished drinking my tea and there is some cous-cous at the bottom....

I'm Sick Of Drawing Monkeys

This Monkey King project annoys me.

I have recently decided Joel Stewert is amazing, mainly for the fact that we share the same sense of humor.... I think anyway.

FLOATING PENGUINS!!

note: better if you open this link in new tab/ window

I now take the sacred oath... I pledge to blog more often.

True Lust

Hi fellow illustrations lovers!

I hate introducing myself because I always sound pretentious. But I'm Dagger and it's a pleasure to meet you.

I had the over-whelming urge to re-read Amphigorey today. So I did.

He has such a way with words that amazes me in it's dirty, dirty way.

Everyone usually assumes it's Burton that holds such an influence over my design style, but I've never been all that taken with his drawings. It's Gorey all the way for me.

Filled With Static

well it would appear i have the blogger bug:
this is my first post for Sea In A Sieve but as you may know already i also write for London Is The Capital Of Paris with the wonderful Dagger.

i've been told i have to stick strictly to illustration based posts on this one-
i'll have to try and keep my ramblings/pictures of nights out/random fashion stuff to a minimum.

i will also have to try to keep this as intellectual as possible, i'm not sure The Cap'n would be too happy with me posting about my dirty socks

but any who, i'm Lady and i will be posting about fashion illustration
or at the very least
attempting to

and on that note i shall bid you all a good bonfire night
