Blue Boots

Hello Fluoxetine!

I just hope it helps me to help myself and get some work done for once.

So anyway, I got some pens the other day thinking that they were just writing pens and it turns out they are sort of half gel half biro or something weird and the ink is the colour of the plastic case. 

However, the most awesome thing is that the blue one is the most amazing colour.

I drew these with it., the first observational drawings I have done for weeks:

Quick update

Sorry everyone.
I will eventually have something worth posting.
My life is very, shall we say, terbulant at the moment.
Once again I am advised to re-take anti-depresants.
I don't want to.
Niether do I want to fail, take a year out or become an alcoholic.
Also, I must make the choice between animation and Fine Art for my theory module this year.
This is all just a small segment of all that is going on.

Sat On A Banana

I went to the Rude Britannia exhibition at Tate Britain today. It was really interesting but I still want a Scarfe scarf which is now something like £65 but still way too expensive.

However, my mum had a voucher so she let me have the free ticket and so I spent the money on the catalogue/book thingamie. :D My excuse is that it is very useful for our research project. Actually I wish it was on when I was writing my essay on comics. 

The room guide is amazing: it has drawings by Simone Lia! 

Also my mum sat on a giant black banana and got told off by the security guy. On the way back she said "better not tell Dad I sat on that giant banana." Which I thought was hilerious.

haha, that is what i said in reply to my friend stating it wasn't an art trip when we went to london....i sound strangely optimistic!
ANYway here's a whole pile of sketchs done in various places i've been lately with friends...including cardiff and london and 2000 tress festival (which was GREAT). I left my moleskine there but the awesomely kind woman, who painted my face into a strange red panda, sent it back to me! It arrived on my birthday no less! She brilliantly helped the notion of the kindness of strangers and i sent her a print of a red panda i drew a while back as a thank you.

stuck on a line of misadventure

Recently I have had far too many things go wrong. Including setting off the fire alarms in the house by hardly burning anything then not knowing how to turn it off. It makes me kind of afraid of this place.

Today I'm in one of the really weird moods I get in sometimes which must be the result of being stuck in a house for far too long. It's a trapped kind of feeling. Makes me want to do something creative to feel better but then when it turns out bad it makes me feel worse. Maybe you know what I'm talking about. Anyway, here is something from my little sketchbook:

New Place

Sorry for lack of posts etc I just moved into my new house and had a festival to go to.

Hopefully Tee will talk about the festival and I can just dump this awful sketch on you and be done. I feel quite down at the present.

Update and some quick little sketches

 No idea why these are the wrong way up :/ When I open them in photoshop they are normal. I'll try and sort it out. Also I appologise for lack of scanning.

I haven't been doing much sketching lately. Though this weekend I have been helping out The Basildon Arts Collective at Basfest. I also had some work on display which got quite a bit of interest. I'm happy about this because it means I must doing something right!

I must do more work, and of course the blog needs a proper layout.

I Don't Just Draw My Dogs I Swear...

hi!

Thought i'd post some more quick sketchs i did :)
I'm too lazy to go downstairs and use the scanner so i just took pictures, sketchs tend to come out alright anyway on my camera for a small scale...

 The Rabbit and the Dear were drawn using Reference using my new awesome Noodlers Ink. It's AMAZING STUFF.It doesn't ever clog.

Escapades At An End

The God of Pens

Hello, first post on this blog! I will go as Tee :)

Anyway after a rekindled love of Craig Thompson's work.  (seen above).

I thought I'd try get back into using my brush pen. (we have the same pen! see below).

so in the nature of very much encouraged observational drawing i spent an evening drawing with the epic pen. I really should use it more.

Tumbleweed

Nobody has posted anything on here for so long... why?!
Possibly everyone has far too much work to be doing.
But that usually makes me do stuff like this more often, I suppose it's because this time I had an essay to write. I'm so glad that is done with now.
We still need a proper layout for this blog. *sigh*

I am currently working on my animation project.
Apparently we should demonstrate the skills we learnt in lesson so it looks like i'm gonna have to do somekind of cutout thing in After effects. I have a rough little inital storyboard thing with badly drawn stickmen. It's based around me saying "If you correctly identify a species of bird, it has to fly away".
Should be funny, most likely in a bad way.

Animation Anticipation

I feel like I've lost something. Or is it that I realise there is still something missing?
I like hardly any of my recent work.

However, signs of spring are here.
The birds are singing and the night air smells good.

Illustrating Sound, or Sonic Visualisation: A Not-so-Original Exercise

This is something I do every so often. I should mention here, really I can't draw for toffee- I'm not like the other fine, talented contributors of this blog and my interest in pursuing visual art is, to say the least, sporadic. But this is something I do every so often: I'll put on a album, and I'll draw to the sound.

This time, the record inspiring the doodling was 'These Four Walls' by the Scottish wonders We Were Promised Jetpacks, and these are the four drawings I came up with:

It's Thunder and it's Lightning "I have to say goodnight... I'm leaving"
The pace of this opening track encouraged me to work with really jerky movements at a speed in time with the song. I didn't have a clue where I was going. I formed the main red, black and blue parts of the picture first (save for the bottom blue band, which was added last and unfortunately ruined it a little as I picked up the wrong shade pen), and then added the sketchy, scratchy birds. This was just purely following the sonic atmosphere, the increasingly frenetic and stormy sound, with the lighter touches of glockenspiel punctuating it (the birds, perhaps?)

My next effort came from a different approach, and one that was in this case very unsuccessful. As you can see above, it's very bland and doesn't really show much of the song. The lyrical references to electricity steered me towards pylons, but this really didn't work. It would have been better if I could have thought less in concept, and more in the gently treated slowed-down fairground aesthetics of the song.

Quiet Little Voices "I'm young again!"A happy medium between the two methods of my previous drawings. The dashed black middle and red 'lines' came from the former song, just working with what it felt like, and the "quiet little monsters" line in the latter song inspired those grey, red-eyed, hopefully monster-like scribbles.

Short Bursts "You looked at me/my blood went cold"
Here I took the blood referenced in the lyrics as a starting point and measuredly with the pace of the rhythm section started drawing veins, roughly guided by looking at my wrists, then taking it further after I ran out of lines to recreate and next moving onto an imagined network of arteries. The black lines are nothing in particular, maybe some thing of life giving necessity less tangible than blood... no? Ok, I thought that sounded a bit too much of a stretch...

This experiment would probably yield better results is tackled by a more avid artist than myself, I hope maybe someone reading will try it for themselves if they haven't before (I'm sure many have though, this can't be an original idea). It can certainly be a very fun way to occupy your hands and eyes when you're listening to something but want to be doing a little more without being distracted from the music so much. If anything, this can help you be more engaged with the music as you're processing it in different ways to make the drawings

All pictures drawn on plain white A5 paper (or sections of) using black and red Rotring Rollerpoint EF ink pens (sadly discontinued many years back) and Staedler Triplus Fineliners. Please note: some adjustments made to image contrast/brightness to compensate for my scanner being awful.

Watch out, I might be making this a semi-regular feature, who knows...
